I love painting portraits. And I love taking portraits with my camera. I used to carry my camera everywhere with me. While I wasn't completely fearless, I did spend many a day taking pictures of strangers.
It is a wonderful exercise to ask a complete stranger if you may take his photograph. It makes your heart beat faster the first time you do it. But, eventually, thankfully, it is not so nerve wracking. It becomes a game, a challenge, a scavenger hunt of adventure.
And, tonight I came across this website: www.100strangers.com It is a challenge to take at least 100 photographs of 100 strangers. The rules are simple in that you must always ask permission to take the photograph and attempt to tell a story in the image. That's it. Pretty cool, aye? I'm in. Anyone else? I'll be posting images here at Soul Humming on a weekly basis. Images for the website are also left at the 100 Strangers Flickr group. Leave a comment if you are interested in giving it a go as I'd love to pop over and see your shots, too.
sounds pretty cool to me! I'll leave a note when I post #1. LOVE THIS IDEA and I'm going to share it with my two new photog buds. I'll be back :D - vicki

That sounds like such a cool project!
Now I need to find a decent camera case to lug my camera around, now that I lent out my little one to a friend.

This will be so much fun to watch you do!! You have an amazing eye for capturing the "soul" in a photo.
