"If you're still hanging onto
a dead dream of yesterday,
laying flowers on its grave by the hour,
you cannot be planting the seeds
for a new dream to grow today."
- Joyce Chapman
When we moved to this house almost ten years ago, the back yard was dirt. So we bought trees, roses, and bulbs and planted them. The trees are quite tall now. In the last year or so one of them began to drop these gorgeous, woody pods filled with furry yellow seeds. At first, there was only one, and I saved it and cherished it. But now there are many more in a slew of sizes.
Today I collected two of the smallest ones and cleaned, varnished, drilled and wired them so they could become Pod Pendants.

That photo of you in your peapod necklace looks like a classic painting. Lovely work as usual. Thanks for posting one of my favorite E.A. Poe poems. Great idea incorporating it in your painting!

I love the pods and what you have done with them! Haven't seen that kind of pod around here (Iowa). I just looked up online and found an article about bottle trees. It said the hairs that grow around the seeds in the pod can stick in your skin and be very itchy. I hope you were wearing gloves!

These are beautiful necklaces! Love the pods. We have a longer, lighter colored pod on our bushes that produce flowers. I have saved some and might try varnishing them as you did. I saw Deryn Mentock do something similar recently with a silk pod.
