that face pretty much sums it up. as a little kid i don't think i liked birthday parties too much. they were overwhelming and too stimulating for me, and they still are. everyone always makes you wait to eat cake and open presents. isn't eating cake all anyone really wants to do on their birthday as a kid (and maybe as an adult, too)? but i do love small gatherings of dear friends and family for my birthday. i'm looking forward to that tonight and then some.
today also marks
my second anniversary
of being Cancer-free!
that is surely worth celebrating. every day i step farther away from
cancer, i think it gets easier. i begin to forget the pain and worry.
the shadows recede and my life is beginning to feel like my own again, slowly but surely. i am so very grateful to have a birthday. that was the only reason i agreed to have my mastectomy on my birthday. it was the first day available for the surgery and i thought it would be wonderful to keep having birthdays. so i said yes, let's do it. so there is much to be thankful for.
my friend, kateri, is having a mastectomy today. it was a very odd coincidence/ magical miracle when she told me her surgery was scheduled for the same day i had had mine. i'm praying for her and i hope you will lift her up in prayer, too. she is a precious, precious person and the prayers of many are sure to help her. she is a fantastic poet and has a lovely blog. click on her name above to visit her site and follow her journey.
lastly, my birthday is a little bittersweet today as my dad fell yesterday and broke his hip. he was already barely mobile so this especially difficult. he had surgery yesterday evening and will be in the hospital for several days. it is hard to hear more bad news about my daddy. he is in such a fragile condition and he surely deserves a reprieve. so i would be expecially appreciative if you could please say a prayer for his healing. i guess all i want for my birthday is a prayer or two. :0)
thank you to everyone for always being so kind and supportive. this lovely community is ever so encouraging and uplifting. your sweet words always brighten my day.

Happy Birthday to you sweet friend! You, your friend and your daddy are in my heart, thoughts and prayers. God Bless you all.
xoxo

Happy Birthday Kelly!
What a milestone to celebrate, being cancer-free for 2 years - yea!!! Here is my favorite Irish blessing especially for you today:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Your father and friend will be in my prayers.
Happy Birthday, my friend -
:-) Molly

Happy Birthday Dear Sister. It's been two years since I was at your house with you on your birthday for your masectomy. I am truly thankful for every additional day with you. I love you truly. I'm back to the hospital to stay with Daddy and we both you are having a wonderful birthday. Dive in the cake and presents. Hope mine to you made it on time. I'll stop in the chapel at the hospital as it seems to be drawing me each time I walk by it and say a prayer for your friend and of course for Daddy and all of us. Love.

Hope your birthday was wonderful dear neice. I remember well all those childhood celebrations of your big day and yes the picture speaks volumes. You would be such a tyrant that we were afraid of you, but luckily your mood did improve after the cake.

Happy Birthday sweet sweet girl. It is so easy to pray for you, and your celebration, for your friends who can use the support, and for your Father. Who of any of us are ever far from some of these same situations? I hope your day was wonderful, and that your year is especially good to you and yours.
xoxo, Dede

I'm just reading this today, but even late prayers are good to have, I know, so I'm sending some up for your dear father and your friend Kateri. And of course, a prayer of thanksgiving for your life & many gifts and for the victory over cancer. Be comforted and strengthened in the the One who created you.
