"Fate is nothing but the deeds committed in a prior state of existence." - Emerson
I had one of those days yesterday and it is still trying to do it's work upon me. First, I tore a big hunk of flesh out of the middle knuckle on my right hand while taking the wash out of the machine. Then I went to the market to buy some things for the kids' lunchboxes this week. It was raining. As I pulled down the heavy back door on my Expedition, I slammed it right into my own head. Let me tell you, that really, really hurts. I had to sit in the car with my face pressed against the steering wheel for a few minutes over that one. I have a big old sore lump on my noggin. Lastly, as I was trying to be merry and happy as the kids helped me decorate the tree instead of snippy and snappy as I was tired and grumpy, I pulled a sheet pan out of the cupboard. In doing so I accidentally yanked out a substantial square wooden cutting board with sharp corners, one of which embedded itself into the top of my foot. I was wearing a thin cotton sock at the time. That one sent me onto the ground in a fetal position with tears trying to squirt out of my eyes. Now my foot is sort of blue with a blood blister. And, again, that is something that really hurts.
Do you ever have one of those days? When you do have one do you ever wonder what's up? I do. I wonder what I'm doing. Am I just tired and not being careful? Am I getting some sort of karmic kick-back for something I did? Is it just coincidence that it all happens in the same day? It makes me curious.
Here, while I am not a person who commonly reads astrology or things like that, I've heard many people bemoan days like this with Mercury is in Retrograde! I have no idea what that means but I thought I'd look up what was going on as far as astrology goes for yesterday. Check this out...
~ December 15 Mars squares Saturn at 21˚32' Sag/Virgo
Here are some things to consider and look out for during these few days:
- This is an energizing aspect. Mars can be a catalyst and so can mobilize things to happen that have been stuck. During this time, this can happen faster than usual. So expect things to feel somewhat chaotic and maybe even frantic.
- Old patterns and habits are challenged by the fiery influence of Mars.
- Don't overdo during these days, especially if you feel hurried or rushed. The Mars/Saturn connection has occurred at other times of destruction or accidents. Be Careful! Slow down. Be late if you have to. This is not the time to rush!
- Expect that some area of your life will be crazy and at least somewhat out of control. Don't plan too much during these days. Stay focused on the task at hand.
- Frustration is in the air. So be extra kind and patient.
- With Mars in Sag a good way to work out your frustrations or anger is to do something physical ~ even a walk or dancing can help!
- You may be tempted to be critical or judgmental during this time. Or, another may be that way towards you! Try to hold your tongue. Keep in mind that this one passes quickly.
What's up with that? I have no idea whatsoever how anyone comes up with this stuff. But, I think the above information could be used every year right before Christmas. Everyone is rushing. People are frustrated. There's a lot going on all at once. I don't know but it's interesting to ponder.
So far today I've managed not to cut or maim myself. And I even made it through the post office without having to flick anyone in the face. Instead, I smiled at all the people I saw. I tried to make eye contact and smile at as many strangers as I could. I offered to help someone with a big project and said I would finish it for them by tomorrow. It felt nice to help. And, as of this hour, I haven't fallen down the stairs.
Is it all related, connected, strung together? I guess it is if I choose to believe it is. It is my life, after all, lumps and bumps and all.
p.s. the progressive dinner was lovely!
in case you are wondering, i'm not falling down.
i was the one pressing the timer on the camera
and came flying into the frame last minute.
and no one tumbled into the bushes or swam in their clothes. not that we ever behave that way.
i did manage to catch my hair on fire as i was trying to set the camera up for a self-timer photo. only i didn't know it was on fire. i kept saying, what's that smell? and my friend said, it smells like burning hair. finally, someone with some sense came over and said, oh my! you've burned the back of your hair! heeeee! and there were a few funny moments that will live in infamy. i even have quite the incriminating pictures to prove it. but i am building up my blackmail collection for lean days so i can't show those to you. if i did i would probably cut my own leg off the next time i tried to shave. no need to tempt fate and all...

Hey Kelly ! I am not super into astrology but I think that any "tools" out there that come into my world waving red flags for me must be the universe's was of getting my attention. I just have to learn to trust and listen to them !!!
The first thing that jumped out at me from the astrology quote was the words in RED - BE CAREFUL ! SLOW DOWN. Red flag, get it ? I need those words today. Most days really. Maybe you do too ?;-)
The progressive party looks like a total hoot !!!! A really comedy night ! How great that you have friends and gifts that in you life !!!
Go Away Trickster Mercury or whatever ! Kelly has had enough !!!! ;-)

About the first picture: I would not like that woman to flick me in the face at the PO or anywhere! Now I know it's the wounded, bruised, bump on the head look, but I also wouldn't mess with her. But in the party pictures, you look GORGEOUS!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

First of all, you look deevine in the group photo! I've had nothing like the series of catastrophes that you did, BUT last Saturday I failed to find a butane canister for my little torch at FIVE - count 'em - five places. Two Rite Aids, one Target, one Vons, and a CVS. All with way too many other shoppers in the way, and my new pain in my hip getting worse as I went. This weekend I'm going straight to Lowe's.

Boy, I don't check in on you for a few days, and all hell breaks loose! How do you do it! But, perhaps there is something to that astrological (hey! the word "logical" is hiding in there...) stuff; sure sounded on target to me. Even with the bump on your noggin, I loved seeing your fierce brows pop up on my screen. Your pics of the party were fab and you looked lovely. As for all the other craziness, take it slow...it will all be there tomorrow. Hugs, N
