i don't know if you are as in love with adele as i am but this morning she is keeping me company with this beautiful song. i think her voice is as close to perfection as one can get. it's smokey and scratchy and multi-layered and i am crazy about her music.
the other day when i said i was going to may favorite store with my bestest fun friend, i spaced and left the links out to let you know where i was going and who i was talking about. it happens. but i will show you a couple pictures from that day so the mystery will be revealed.
this dress is absolutely breathtaking. the silk, the color, the pleating, the lace. ahhhh...
and look inside this treasure tray. there are big brass lockets and shoe buckles of ivory and gorgeous bits and bobs to make your head spin with delight.
this window has an especially lovely winter dress complete with silver birds. can you see the full house inside filling their arms with Christmas riches?
and here's how excited i look whenever i am here.
did you figure out where i was? this one will tell you everything...
it was Gilding the Lily! and there's those two beautiful girls, nancy and pilar (and me with my camera in the door reflection). nancy has the greatest make and takes in the store right now. i made a special necklace for my husband's stepmom while there. she absolutely Flipped over it (i forgot to take a photo of it!). i wish i could have spent the whole day there making every make and take she had. they were really awesome.
and i took dear nancy a little sterling heart ornament i made for the lily store tree. here it is...
it has a peruvian opal hanging from the heart. if you get a chance, go down there and buy yourself some goodies. it is just the most wonderful store and nancy is absolutely the bestest girl!
i have been on a bit of a heart kick lately because i also made this heart necklace with citrines and turquoise for my son's kindergarten teacher's Christmas gift...
today is her son's first birthday. happy birthday tai, you Christmas eve boy! turquoise is the birthstone for december so i added that big turquoise drop to the heart. and, if you are into the metaphysical powers of stones, Citrine brings happiness, joy and optimism into your life. it is one of only
two minerals on the planet which do not hold or accumulate negative
energy, but dispels and transforms it. i think that is perfect for a kindergarten teacher (or anyone, really!).
i hope your Christmas eve is coming along nicely. the kids and i have been playing boggle. it's very cloudy and cold outside so we are staying in and planning some cookie baking for santa. and we'll put carrots out on the sidewalk for the reindeer. later tonight we will hide our pickle ornament on the tree. whichever son finds it first gets to open a special present. and we'll all get to open one present tonight. and we'll read the Christmas story together. then off to bed to dream of sugar plums and wait for Santa.

Love, love, LOVE the track from Adele...and the reference to Jeff Buckley. His father, who also died tragically young, was a friend of my sister's...I remember seeing him at the local pool hall in Fullerton, the Golden Cue. Talented beyond belief, as was his son. I heard Jeff's first cuts, and thought, "Could this be coincidental?" and called my sister to have her listen to the full circle experience. Thanks for turning me on to this; I will definitely add this to my listening list...it's spectacular. Like you. Just another gift, like all those you give so easily. Loving you from here, blessings on you dear girl, and a very merry...
i knew you were at Gilding the lily - i could just tell! that store is so super sweet and i'd have that expression on my face too if i were there visiting and creating! you are too cute - i like your hair cut. i'm growing mine out again. got bored with it short (you know, got bored with it long............ and on and on it goes!) Sending my best to you and speaking of hearts - what's say me and you do a valentine's swap? are you interested? we can figure out details if you are......... thought it'd be fun to do with ya!
Looks like you've been up to some beautiful art/jewlery making through the holidays! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a chocolate filled 2009!
